How Do I Convert A Fish Size to find it’s approximate weight? By using a quick mathematical formula, a simple quick table chart or by using a more accurate species specific chart.  Most angles either do not carry a scale or have an old spring style Fish Scale or may have a more reliable and accurate Digital Fish Scale.

By knowing the fish’s length and possibly girth you can find a fishes weight and approximate age. Do you have a ruler or fabric Tape Measure in your tackle box? NO! The wife noticed you sneaking her sewing tape measure and made you put it back or did you forget yours at home in the other box!

HEY!  You can still get the length and girth. Got a spare spool of line in your box? NO! Then cut the lure off your line and use some of that fishing line.  Cut one piece of line by placing on tip of tail and measureing to the tip of the snout (length). Cut a Second piece of line by taking and just snuggly winding line around the biggest part of the fish belly (girth). Either mark the line or cut it off at the exact point the line doubles back over itself. Now take the two if both are close to same size then make a loose loop in girth string, (so you can get loop out), and put both in your pants pocket. When you get home, measure each piece of line and calculate or find the weight.
