Big Game
Any person over the age of 12, who has a valid Hunter’s Training Certificate, resident or non-resident, who is a guardian or has guardian permission can hunt in Saskatchewan. You can hunt on public land without permission but anywhere else requires the permission of the land owner or the leasee of the land. All hunters must be in possession of a Current Year Valid Hunting Licence, with the exception of Native People for sustenance hunting. The following regulations are a condensed listing obtain a copy of the Complete Hunter’s & Trappers Regulations or go to or contact the nearest Sask Environment Office or Conservation Officer.
Hunting includes: taking, wounding, killing, chasing, pursuing, worrying, capturing, following after on the trail of, searching for, shooting at, trapping, setting snares for, stalking or lying in wait for any wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is subsequently captured, wounded or killed.
Hunting Licenses are available at:
SERM (Saskatchewan Environment Resource Management) department offices and authorized vendors across the province.Native people, as defined and required under section 12 of the Natural Resource Transfer Agreement, do not require a licence when subsistence hunting.
A Canadian Resident is a person who is a Canadian Citizen and lived in Canada 12 Months prior to obtaining a licence. Saskatchewan Residents are defined as individuals who are a Canadian Resident and have resided in Saskatchewan for 3 months immediately preceding the issue of the licence
Saskatchewan residents must provide a valid Health Services card when purchasing a game licence. Residents may purchase a hunting licence (Wildlife Habitat Certificate) and any Big Game permit for visiting hunter before that person’s arrival but will need to supply the hunters name, date of birth and address. All non-residents must have a legal guide and can only hunt in the designated areas defined for non-resident hunting.
If you were born after January 1, 1971, you are required to provide proof that you have successfully completed the Saskatchewan firearm safety/hunter education training or a similar recognized course from another jurisdiction before you can buy, hold or apply for a hunting or trapping licence. If requested to do so by the licence vendor, you must produce a valid certificate or you will be denied a licence.
The Province is broken into Game Zones and each zone or block of zones have different season opening dates for Resident and non-residents. Also different season dates for archery, muzzle loader and rifle, and by Big Game Draw or Regular Season. Please see full guide for Season dates.
Big Game Limits are usually restricted to 1 animal unless a special license for 2 animals is issued. Some species licenses specify the sex that can be harvested.
NEW FOR 2009
SUNDAY HUNTING, will be allowed for the province of Saskatchewan. During open seasons, hunters will be allowed to hunt on Sundays in all wildlife management zones.
