In this section you want to chose the type of plan that best fits your financial budget but still fullfills your dream. There are several plan types to chose from but the most common ones that are offered are explained just follow the links:
Do It Yourself Plan: Fishing, Upland Bird and Waterfowl hunting do not require a licensed outfitter or guide in order to fish or hunt in Saskatchewan. This means you can do a Do It Yourself Plan. This usually requires driving of some type, either you drive all the way from home or you fly commercial airline to major city, then rent a vehicle and drive to a road accessible fishing/hunting location or you catch a float plane to a remote outpost wilderness camp. The full drive and hunt/fish plan has some good and bad points: It is or can be cheaper if in a group, split gas, supplies, lodging and food. Bad in that costs for fuel, hotels and eating out, may bring the price up comparable to a fly-in trip. You have to make all the arrangements for a boat or launching of a boat, know where to hunt, do your own scouting, find and ask farmers for permission, find lodging and obtain food at restraunts based on their hours of operation. See Choose A Location and Find A Hotel and Find A B&B (bed&breakfast)
Fly-In Remote Outposts/Wilderness Camps These type of trips are a step up from the do-it-yourself trip. You drive or fly commercial airline into Saskatchewan usually to Saskatoon, Regina or Prince Albert then catch a smaller regional or float plane for a Fly-In Remote Outpost Or Wilderness Camp (see info here). The good point about this is a specific area or set of lakes are chosen when you choose the camp to go to. The owner/outfitter will usually supply the basic equipment, gear and supplies saving you having to haul these into the province. Depending on the remoteness you will also have some type of base camp/cabin/tent to stay in and fish or hunt from. The bad point is you still have no guide, usually you are just dropped off at the base and you receive fly by’s or check ins by air or radio. You still do all the work of camp chores, cooking, clean up, rerieving and butchering/cleaning of your harvest. See Choose A Location and Find An Outpost Camp
Outfitter/Guide Service: to make your trip of a lifetime spectacular, I recommend using one of the many lodges, resorts or outfitters, they will guarantee a great experience and because you are paying them, the best are going to go above and beyond your expectations. Each one is going to set prices for their services depending on what they provide and where they are located and where you want to fish and what you request of them. Below are the most common packages or plan they provide and what you usually get with each type of package or what you should expect to receive as a bare minimum.
Usually most outfitters have multiple plans available the most common are full American, Housekeeping or Light Housekeeping and Remote Outpost, and some have an All Exclusive Fly-in Fisherman’s Special Package.
Housekeeping or Light Housekeeping Plan (LHP) This is a step up from an Outpost or Wilderness camp in that you are hosted in a main base camp, or a permanant set of buildings such as group of cabins. These plans include a form of maid service for your rooms. The number of times and amount of service determines the designation of Regular or light housekeeping. See Light Housekeeping Plan for complete details.
All Exclusive Package or All Inclusive Special This is the Outfitters top most plan. This is a true you get everything type plan. Being a top package means you will recieve service that will cater to all of your needs. including guide service. All arrangements are made for you, and all fish/game are handled by the staff. Most of these plans are situated at large main Lodges with full maid service, and gourmet meals served to guests. Most of the guides have been born or raised in the area so they are very knowledgeable of local hot spots. Quite often you will find the Owner is a partnership or Corporate owned or the Outfitter owns and has evolved into a large organization, where profits play a great role in the operations of the Lodge. See All Inclusive Plans for more details.
